We offer clients a secure means of disposal for their redundant equipment. Currently we can accept 2 categories of electronic / electrical waste:

By offering a recycling service we consider it part of our undertaking to assist clients reduce their electronic and electrical equipment waste stream, where and when possible.
As well as a recycling service we also like to encourage and promote the reuse of IT equipment.
Intended WEEE Recovery Targets for IT & Telecommunications Equipment:
85% Recovery, 65% Reuse

Currently we operate 2 methods of uplift:
- Uplift equipment from the site of origin.
- Uplift equipment from an agreed central location.
In both cases we would ask if the equipment is made available for uplift on ground level at an area that can be easily accessed by our vehicles. Normally for larger loads our staff will utilise Roll Cages to securely transport large quantities.
Redundant electrical equipment is now classed as 'Hazardous Waste'.
This means a special 'Waste Carriers Licence' is issued by SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency). This licence permits companies such as ourselves to Transport specialist waste from a client's site back to our processing faclity.
................................................................................................
Once the equipment has been transferred onto the vehicle a member of our staff will issue a Duty of Care document which is signed by both parties.
This is a legal document that should be retained for 2 years.
It is your record of Computer Recycling Services Ltd having taken ownership of your redundant equipment in a manner that complies with SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) guidelines.
................................................................................................
When equipment arrives back at our processing facility the next stage is to compile a complete audit detailing everything that was uplifted.
The Audit contains information such as:
- Unique Uplift No
- Uplift Date
- Uplift Address
- Contact Name
- No. of Hard Drives Erased / Destroyed
- Serial Number
- Manufacturer
- Hardware Type
- Description
- Recycled or Refurbished
- Certificate of Destruction

Recycled/Refurbished Equipment & Hard Drive Security
Where possible we endeavour to refurbish and re-use as much equipment as possible to assist in the reduction of waste.
However, we do cater for many clients who are uncomfortable with their redundant equipment being re-used and would prefer for security reasons all equipment to be recycled. In this situation equipment is broken down into the component parts:
Plastics, PCB's (Printed Circuit Boards), Metals, Cables, Microchips, Power Supplies etc… These components are then sent to a refinery that will recover any recyclable materials and treat them in a environmentally friendly manner.
Hard Drives that are to be recycled are 'chopped' into pieces using a pair of industrial shears (See picture opposite). The residual material is them sent off for precious metal recovery and recycling.
Equipment destined to be refurbished ends up in our workshops where they undergo a series of tests that includes the Hard Drives being 'erased' using recognised software, which actually overwrites all of the data on your hard drive so you can feel confident that any sensitive information is permanently eliminated.
This software is certified to Department of Defence Standards (United States of America).
Hard Drives that cannot be erased using software are physically destroyed using industrial shears.
