A WEEE History:

EU Directive 2002/96/EC better known as the WEEE (Waste Electronic & Electrical Equipment) Legislation, became European Law on The 13th February 2003, and fully implemented within the UK in July 2007. WEEE is the fastest growing waste stream in the UK. Each year in the UK throw away over 1.2 million tonnes of electrical and electronic waste. The equivalent of 150 thousand double decker buses!

Previously over 75% of waste electrical goods end up in landfill, where toxins found within the electrical goods can cause soil and water contamination, which has severe consequences for wildlife, human beings, and the environment.

The European WEEE (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment) Directive has 3 main objectives, they are:

  • The prevention of waste from electronic and electrical equipment.
  • The re-use, recycling and other forms of recovery of such wastes.
  • Minimising the risks and impact to the environment associated with the treatment and disposal of end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment.

Our WEEE Solutions:

We offer customers a comprehensive WEEE compliant solution, which includes:

  • SEPA Registered Approved Authorised Treatment Facility (AATF) for WEEE.
    • This approval is issued by SEPA and authorises us to accept and treat WEEE.
  • SEPA Registered Waste Carrier.
    • This permits us to transport waste on public highways. “The Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989” and “The Controlled Waste (Registration of Carriers and Seizure of Vehicles) Regulations 1991”.
  • Management of Customer's Special Waste Notes.
    • We take the headache away from the customer by completing SEPA Special Waste Consigment Notes on their behalf.
  • Detailed Audit Trail.
    • We provide customers with a full audit which details all of the equipment we have received and what is going to happen to it.
  • Strict Client Confidentiality.
    • The building is alarmed and on-line 24/7 to a national response centre.
    • Customer / Previous User Identification. Every effort is made to remove any identification marks found on the customer's hardware. (For example any logos, labels, stickers, asset no.s etc…)
    • All Staff are issued with ID badges.
  • Secure Data Destruction.
    • Hard Drives "Destroyed" - using industrial shears hard drives are physically destroyed beyond repair.
    • Hard Drives "Erased" - using recognised software, which actually overwrites all of the data on your hard drive so you can feel confident that any sensitive information is permanently eliminated. This software is certified to US Department of Defence Standards.
  • Increase your Reuse targets.
    • We like to encourage and promote the reuse of IT equipment. The re-use of equipment is a significant part of the WEEE. Our statistics show that 25% of the equipment we bring in is sent to our workshops refurbished, and re-used extending the life cycle of equipment further.
  • Help protect the Environment & comply with WEEE Legislation.
